Ben Hope already stands apart from much of the surrounding landscape, but the changing light made that separation more pronounced. Its upper slopes caught the breaks in the weather while the lower ground remained subdued, leaving the mountain distinct without isolating it completely from its surroundings. That tension between connection and separation became the basis of the photograph
