Location: Hope, Northern Sutherland
I had been watching the light move across the hills around Loch Hope when a brief opening in the cloud illuminated the middle distance. For a few moments the landscape separated into layers, each ridge falling away into the next while the loch remained quietly below. That fleeting change in depth and structure was what made the photograph, the loch itself became almost incidental.
