Glen Cassley

Plate 8 from the Sutherland: Light, Shadow and Stone Collection

Location: Glen Cassley, Central Sutherland
Glen Cassley is a broad landscape, but this photograph came from looking into a much smaller part of it. Backlight caught the moving water and the edges of the pines while much of the riverbank remained in shadow, reducing the scene to water, trunks and reflected light. It was the intimacy of that moment, rather than the scale of the glen around it, that made the photograph.
