Feur-Loch

Plate 4 from the Sutherland: Light, Shadow and Stone Collection

Location: Elphin, Assynt
This photograph was made during a brief break in the rain and cloud on a late October afternoon. I had been watching the light move across the landscape, waiting for the low sun to find a way through. When it did, crepuscular rays separated the overlapping slopes of Meall Dearg and Cul Beag into a series of simple atmospheric forms above Feur-loch. It lasted only a few minutes, but it was exactly the light I had been waiting for.
