I had been standing in steady rain beside Loch a’ Chàirn Bhàin for around forty-five minutes, waiting for a break in the cloud and some light across the landscape. The break never came. Instead, a rainbow appeared in front of the hills and Glendhu Forest, with Kylesku Bridge emerging from the rain to the right. It was not the photograph I had been waiting for, but it was no consolation prize.
