City skyline with tall modern skyscrapers and high-rise buildings illuminated at dusk, viewed over a calm river with a small boat docked on the right side.

Undulating Glass

Plate 4 from the Chicago: Light, Shadow and Steel Collection

This architectural study isolates the curved, reflective facades of modern glass high rises as they mirror the passing sky.

An exploration of modern transparency, fluid motion and structural form. This composition isolates the soaring, sculptural glass towers that redefine the city’s modern high rise skyline. Careful pixel level color grading highlights the changing tones of the sky and passing clouds as they ripple across curved, reflective facades. By carefully managing harsh, high contrast glare the photograph and final print achieve a clean balance between the rigid underlying steel and the soft, waterlike reflections dancing across the glass canyon.
